We now have a defibrillator installed on the outside wall of Griffydam Primary School a few metres from the road and it is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 day a week.
It was supplied by the British Heart Foundation and paid for by grants from Worthington Parish and North West Leicestershire District Council, and by a donation from Ashby Hastings Rotary Club.
It belongs to the village so we all need to make sure it is kept in good working order and we will need to raise money for replacement batteries and pads.
Later in the year when life is (we hope) back to normal, we plan to have a training session to demonstrate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using the defibrillator. For now, we can go to the website bhf.org.uk/cprfilms which has three short video sequences. The first two demonstrate CPR and the third shows how to use the defibrillator.
If someone is unconscious and not breathing: call 999 / start CPR / ask someone else to fetch the defibrillator / switch it on / follow the instructions given by the machine.
We may never need to use it but it is there if we do!
